Abstract:
“Estate 4.1: Media, Social Media and Democracy in Australia.”

This presentation considers the relationship between media and democracy in Australia with reference to three themes: the Australian constitutional crisis of 1975; the concentration of media ownership favouring Murdoch’s News Corp; and the rise of social media as the main source of news in a ‘post-truth’ media environment.
