Résumé : Cette thèse en linguistique anglaise se propose d’étudier l’extraposition et la dislocation à droite du sujet en it. L’objectif principal consiste à évaluer la validité du rapprochement entre ces deux constructions en se focalisant principalement sur la référentialité de la proforme it. Les questions clés portent sur la genèse de ces structures phrastiques et les critères syntaxiques, sémantiques et pragmatiques qui les motivent. À travers une méthodologie rigoureuse, fondée sur l’analyse d’un corpus diversifié, la présente étude explore les caractéristiques formelles et fonctionnelles distinctes de chaque construction, révélant l’existence de « zones grises » et de nuances subtiles. Ces observations conduisent à envisager la référence de la proforme it comme un continuum allant de la référentialité interne à la référentialité externe.

Abstract : This thesis in English Linguistics aims to study subject extraposition and it-right dislocation. The main objective is to assess the validity of the association between these two phrasal constructions, focusing on the referentiality of it. The key questions concern the origins of these structures and the syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic criteria which motivate them. Using a rigorous methodology based on a diversified corpus analysis, this study explores the distinct formal and functional characteristics of each construction, revealing the existence of ‘shadow areas’ as well as subtle nuances. These observations lead us to consider the reference of it as a continuum ranging from internal to external referentiality.
