Thesis
A Diachronic approach to Lady Macbeth through various media: the problem of ruthless ambition.
Abstract
The focus of this thesis will be the character of Lady Macbeth from the Shakespearean tragedy Macbeth. We will address one specific aspect of her personality in particular, her ambition which appears all-consuming but also destructive for others and herself. This study will start by the fact that this aspect of Lady Macbeth was clearly left unsaid by Shakespeare, as opposed to how his predecessor, Raphael Holinshed defined Lady Macbeth in his chronicles The Historie Of Scotland: “verie ambitious”.
